VTM-VIDEO TIMING METER

F M Systems, Inc. has developed a digital meter that measures the degree of synchronism between CCTV cameras. The new VTM Video Timing Meter measures the degree of synchronism between any two CCTV cameras by displaying the number of horizontal lines that one camera leads or lags the other. This enables rapid and accurate synchronization of all cameras connected to a central switching system. Synchronization of these cameras insures that there will be no loss of picture information during rapid switching sequences due to picture roll.

The VTM is hand-held and battery operated, enabling a technician to set the synchronization of cameras, in difficult to reach locations. The VTM can be used to synchronize cameras to a “reference camera”, or the VTM can synchronize all the cameras in a system to the hub-site phase, using a VTG Video Timing Generator at the hub-site and the VTM timing meter at the camera to be synchronized.

The VTM operates by connecting the two cameras or other video sources to be synchronized to the two BNC input connectors on the meter, pressing the power-on switch and observing the digital display. Synchronization is achieved by adjusting the phase control on one camera to reduce the horizontal line-error display on the VTM until a reading of zero is acheived. The vertical interval synchronization pulses of the two cameras are now synchronized and the Odd and Even fields are also synchronized, insuring that the pictures will not roll and full interlace is maintained even on the first recorded frame.
